Standing before

a stone God
your stone heart
in priest’s garb
unseeing eyes
unspeaking lips
unmindful mind
of the God within..


Hurling sandal paste
in unholy haste
and the offering of flowers
like holy waste
into open earnest palms
O pompous one
you are unchaste
when you draw lines between
women and men
deciding which is which
when your GOD is both and ONE

your eyes open
not charting more rules
for your temple
chanting more prayers
when a simple
earnest smile would have done

for the God within
may knock any moment
