Dear Principal
Your rule over your school
your school full of life
full of children
and their happy laughter
your school full of poets
little poets
who fly with the butterfly
who sway with the leaves
who cry with the rains
please don’t give them pain
please don’t take their poems away
their multi colour poems
like fragile flowers
please don’t let their poems wilt
under the pressure of guilt
please don’t drag their poems to court
poetry competitions
where you preside as Judge
to decide who is best
with your ignorant mind
and your blind eyes
you look for Kiplings and Shakespeares
and when you find them
in every little child
you accuse them of being a copy
and hand the death sentence
to their poetry
their lives
You are guilty of the worst crime
dear Principal
every little child is a poem
they do not belong to your court
You are not God to judge…
Give them their poems back
and they will forgive you for the pain
Give their lives back
and Don’t Ever snatch it again
Don’t ever snatch it again
